Tips for the virtual photo studio
- AUTOFOCUS: Give your camera’s autofocus enough time to adjust to the lighting conditions and the distance to the vehicle. Try to avoid taking photos against the light.
- REFLECTIONS: Make sure you are not reflected in the vehicle. Dark car colors, hoods or windows are just some of the possible challenges.
- PERSPECTIVES: Photos from the front/back with a 30-35º view of the side look particularly good and thus increase the depth effect.
- CAMERA LENS: The optimal camera lens would be 50-70mm. Smaller lenses such as 35mm create an unfavorable fisheye effect. Larger lenses require an unnecessary large distance between you and the car. Both of these effects are undesirable.
- DASHBOARD AUXILIARY LINE AND MARKER: Note the purple dashboard auxiliary line while taking the photo (see illustrations below). Move your camera until the auxiliary line is level with the steering wheel of the car. In addition, the black triangle on the left edge of the mobile screen helps you to keep the camera at the best possible vertical angle.
- ANGLE: Photos from the side are effective as long as the vehicle is on a level plane and is photographed at driver height rather than from above.
- ENVIRONMENT: The vehicle should not be parked against a background or next to a vehicle of nearly identical color. Other objects, windows, doors, people or buildings, etc. are no problem and are skillfully hidden.
- FILTERS: Ideally, you should not use any additional filters that change the perspective or color of the vehicle in any way. Keyword: wide angle or color filter.
- DIMENSION: Typically you take photos in landscape format (optimal: 3:4 or 9:16). The service optimally embeds your photo into the chosen background template.
- RESOLUTION: The ideal range for the resolution of an image can be assumed to be 1600 to 1200 pixels and 3840 to 2160 pixels.
- ANONYMITY: Remove any signs on the vehicle that could identify the owner of the vehicle, like unwanted stickers, license plates, or items from inside the vehicle. This ensures data protection-compliant use.
Of course, every photo is ultimately a success or failure in the eye of the beholder. In this sense, these tips should only be seen as suggestions.
